It is difficult to make change happen, especially when it’s the kind of change that impacts the globe. It can be a slow process and results are not always immediate or visible. There are many reasons that people choose not to live Green, often times, it’s not because they don’t care, it’s because it’s inconvenient. Some of the reasons that living Green is inconvenient for people are similar to other reasons we don’t do things, like work-out.
We’re really great at making excuses:
- “I don’t have access to recycling where I live.” earth911.org
- “It’s too expensive to buy organic foods.” northmarket.com and farmers’ markets
- “Buying power strips and new light bulbs is too expensive.” Green saves “green”
There are lots of other reasons people don’t want to change their behavior; they don’t want to give up their time, their comfort or the way of life that they’re used to, but if we don’t start giving these things up, we’re going to have to give up other things that we love; no more christmas trees, no more tropical island vacations, no more fresh seafood or produce. We will start seeing more disease, more allergies, more droughts, more hurricanes and wildfires, even more war.
So, although change can be difficult, make a conscious effort To Green. See my Green Your Life: How to…and Where to find it post. There are thousands of resources and simple things that everyone can do To Green their life and save the planet.
